This research aims to evaluate the challenges faced in the development of Islamic banking in Indonesia. Despite the progress made in the form of the merger of three Islamic banks into the strong Bank Syariah Indonesia, there are still several obstacles that need to be addressed. This study employs a literature review method, referring to secondary data from the Financial Services Authority, Bank Indonesia, Law No. 21 of 2008 concerning Islamic Banking, and other documents related to Islamic banking in Indonesia. The research findings identify several challenges that need to be addressed to enhance the sustainable growth of Islamic banking. First, there is a shortage of human resources both in terms of quantity and quality that are insufficient in the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia. Second, there is a lack of innovation and competitiveness in the development of Islamic banking products and services compared to conventional banking, as well as the low level of literacy among the Indonesian population regarding Islamic financial institutions.
